Mayor and Cabinet digest: 4 November 2009

Here are some of the key decisions taken by Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, at the meeting of the Mayor and Cabinet on 4 November 2009.

Young Mayor of Lewisham – budget proposals

The Mayor agreed the Young Mayor’s budget proposals for 2008-09 which include:

  • creating performance opportunities to build on the borough’s thriving young arts scene by staging a showcase event in 2010
  • an alternative sports day in summer 2010 where young people will be able to try out sports such as archery, fencing, hockey and skateboarding
  • a marketing campaign to help boost the work of PLINGS (Places to go, Things to do) to enable young people in Lewisham to access information on upcoming events and opportunities in the borough
  • events geared towards greater understanding between younger and older people.

Revenue budget Savings Proposals 2010-11

The Mayor agreed:

  • the views of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee be received and the saving relating to supplies and services budget (RES 15) not be taken
  • the views of the Public Accounts Select Committee be received and the saving relating to older adults and hospital charges (COM 11) not be taken and officers be asked to undertake a strategic review of changing prior to next year’s budget
  • the views of the Works Council be received and the saving relating to the transfer of the out of hours emergency switchboard service (CUS 13) be deferred to allow for urgent further examination
  • the remaining revenue budget savings proposals of £4,188.3K for 2010-11, after consideration of the views of the above scrutiny committees, be recommended to Council.

Adoption Service

The Mayor agreed that the reports of the work of the Adoption Panel be accepted and the review of the Statement of Purpose be approved.

Re-development of Heathside and Lethbridge

The Mayor agreed that:

  • the progress of the Heathside and Lethbridge Regeneration Scheme and the proposed changes be noted
  • the proposed timetable for the Heathside and Lethbridge Regeneration Scheme be agreed
  • the comments made by residents in response to the statutory consultation undertaken pursuant to Section 105 of the Housing Act 1985 be received
  • the budget required for Phase 3 and the refurbishment requirements for the Lethbridge Close blocks be noted and the budget required for 2010-11 and 2011-12 be considered as part of the 2010-11 budget report.
