Downham Health and Leisure Centre hits UK Quest high

Downham Health and Leisure Centre has been placed firmly in the “highly commended” category following its first assessment by Quest, the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure.

The centre scored 80% in the assessment, the highest score ever achieved by a leisure centre in the UK after only one assessment.

The assessment took a detailed look at every aspect of the Leisure Centre including health and safety management, cleanliness, customer relations and the facilities before giving the centre top marks.

Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said “This is a real endorsement for this Downham centre as a first-class Health and Leisure community facility and I’m thrilled that it has now officially been recognised as such through this Quest assessment."

“Downham Health and Leisure Centre is a brilliant example of what can be achieved for the borough through partnership working and what’s more I’m really pleased it’s proved to be so successful with local residents and users."

Tony Penge, Contract Manager for Downham Health and Leisure Centre said: “The Quest award is a fantastic achievement for the Downham team. It is a well deserved reward for the team’s hard work, dedication and professionalism in our first year of operation."

Quest assessor Mike Tebbutt commented that: “The centre had been awarded the highest marks possible in a number of key areas including Programme Development and Partnerships.”
