Connect to Your Council Day: 7 May

Lewisham residents are encouraged to be eco-friendly by visiting the Lewisham Council website on Connect to Your Council Day.

This year the Connect to Your Council Day, on 7 May, is all about the environment. Residents can log on to the website and find out how they can improve or clean up their local community, report enviro-crimes, such as graffiti and fly-tipping, get more information about recycling, or even join a composting workshop.

To help residents think ‘green’, Lewisham Council has just produced a Greener Home Guide. Available online, the Greener Home Guide is a handy guide that gives tips, advice and information about how to lead a greener lifestyle.

For information about stopping junk mail, how to be an organic gardener, home insulation, or for tips on how to shop more ‘greenly’, this guide can help. Go to the Lewisham Council homepage – www.lewisham.gov.uk - and click on the link to access the Greener Homes Guide.

Councillor Susan Wise, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, said: “Even the smallest actions to save energy and reduce waste can make a big difference. By logging onto our website, residents can access a wealth of free information on council services, including simple steps to lead a greener lifestyle.”

Residents can also calculate their own carbon footprint and learn how make simple changes in their lifestyle to reduce it and help tackle climate change by going to the Act on CO2 calculator, link on right.

The Connect to Your Council campaign was launched by Communities and Local Government in 2006 with the aim of raising citizen awareness about council services available online.
