The Mayor of Lewisham’s Business Awards for 2010 were launched at the Civic Suite on 18 November.
The awards provide an opportunity for local businesses to gain recognition for their successes and to increase their profile within the community. They recognise achievement in areas such as innovation, customer service, creativity and social enterprise, not just turnover or profit.
Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said: “Local businesses make a huge contribution to the borough of Lewisham. They drive its economy and represent the fantastic diversity of the area. These Business Awards will be recognising and celebrating that contribution, particularly in light of the difficult economic conditions they’ve had to endure over the last year or so.”
Ed James of Plan London Ltd, a past Business Award winner, said: “Our award helped to give us more focus and exposure, it gave us a real boost.
“As we discovered, the Lewisham Mayor’s Business Awards bring with them plenty of benefits and opportunities. I’d encourage all local businesses to get in on the act and fill out a nomination form.”
The awards are open to all businesses in Lewisham. Businesses themselves choose which category they would like to enter.
There will be 10 categories in the 2010 awards:
- Community Involvement
- Best New Company
- Growth Business of the Year
- Young Apprentice
- Best Pub
- Environmental Award
- Enterprise Achiever
- Best Employee Award
- Who do you love? (customers vote for their favourite independent business)
- Best Company (the overall winner)
Each award is sponsored and there will be a £5,000 cash prize for the overall winner.
The deadline to enter is 25 January 2010 and the winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony to be held at Blackheath Halls on 11 March 2010.
