Lewisham Council cleaned off enough graffiti to stretch from Lewisham to Dover last year. Neighbourhood Environment Action Teams and Streetleaders regularly take part in graffiti busting events such as cleaning hot spot areas around the Borough.
Over 40 members of the public have been trained by the Council to be graffiti busters in their own neighbourhood. Lewisham Council has also provided a number of local businesses with graffiti cleaning materials as well as training them on how to remove graffiti.
The youth offenders’ team allows young people to make reparation for their offending by getting them involved in graffiti removal.
Cam2Web and our ‘Love Lewisham’ applications have speeded up the reporting of graffiti, encouraged many more people to become involved and led to the entire process being more transparent.
These improvements have been remarked upon by London in Bloom judges who recently awarded Lewisham a ‘Silver Gilt’ award and remarked on the 'Near total lack of graffiti, litter and fly posting'.
