A new school for Lewisham

At a meeting of the Mayor and Cabinet on 8 November 2006 the Mayor decided to consult on a proposal that the new secondary school should be moved from the Ladywell Leisure Centre site to a new proposed site at Lewisham Bridge Primary School. He also agreed that we should consult on the new school becoming an ‘all-through’ school catering for 3 to 16 year olds.

Lewisham Central dispersal order

The Lewisham Town Centre dispersal order was in place from 1 June 2006 until 30 May 2007. We conducted focus groups, in order to explore the views of the community in greater detail and understand how the dispersal had impacted them.

Moonshot

The Moonshot Centre was originally developed as a base for the African Caribbean communities of New Cross in the wake of the New Cross fires. Now reopened it focuses on the community, dance, childcare, arts and drama.

Catford Cinema

The Mayor of Lewisham, Steve Bullock, has been angered by the decision to allow the former ABC cinema in Bromley Road, Catford to be turned into a church.

Malory Sports Hall / Knights Academy

The borough has attracted unprecedented funding under the Government’s commitment to transform secondary schools.

As part of this programme, the new Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy will give children and young people the opportunity to learn in a modern and accessible environment. It is proving a popular school with parents and pupils.

Crofton School sports facilities

Lewisham Council are close to starting substantial rebuilding of Crofton School to expand the school, provide modern facilities and a better environment in which to study.

Graffiti

Lewisham Council cleaned off enough graffiti to stretch from Lewisham to Dover last year. Neighbourhood Environment Action Teams and Streetleaders regularly take part in graffiti busting events such as cleaning hot spot areas around the Borough.
