Lewisham Council could scoop a prestigious National Recycling Award after being recognised for its outstanding work in keeping residents informed about the environment.
Lewisham made it through to finals being be one of only five councils in the UK chosen for the 'Best Information and Communication Strategy' category.
Councillor Susan Wise, Cabinet Member for Customers Services, said: 'A big thanks to everyone in Lewisham who has worked hard all year to get the message of recycling across.
'I want to encourage residents to do their part as well by recycling. For those who do not already have a recycling bin they can contact the Recycling Team on 020 8314 7171 to order a bin.
'Businesses can also help by recycling their glass and cardboard waste and save 30% on their trade waste by calling the same number'.
The winner will be announced at a black tie gala dinner at The Bournemouth International Centre on 15 November 2006.
