Free swimming in Lewisham

From 1 April 2009, anyone aged 60 and over or 16 and under can swim for free in Lewisham pools.

How does free swim work?

Each of Lewisham’s swimming pools is offering free swim sessions at different times of the day. All you have to do is check the timings at your local pool, and turn up.

Do I have to take proof of my age?

All you need is your Lewisham library card. This is just to help us count how many people are taking advantage of our free swim. If you don’t have a library card, it is easy to get one.

Go to your local library or your leisure centre and ask for an application form. Complete it, return it and within a few days, you will be able to collect your card from either your local library or your nearest swimming pool.

You can also download a library application form online.

There is no charge for a library card.

I have a Lewisham Plus Card. Don’t I use that?

Your Lewisham Plus Card will still offer you fantastic savings and discounts on lots of leisure activities in and around the borough. But for your free swim, you do need to use a Lewisham library card.

The good news is, however, that if you already have a Plus Card, or if you are ready to apply for one, it will be valid until the end of March 2011.

I pay council tax in the borough. Why can't I swim for free?

The Free Swim initiative is being funded by the Government through five different departments. This funding covers those who are 16 years and under and 60 years and over. We try to keep our swimming prices as competitive as possible and hope those between 17 years and 59 years will still take advantage of our swimming pools.

Where and when can I swim?

You can swim at any pool in Lewisham.
