Lewisham Biodiversity Partnership

The Aims of LBP are:
  • to protect, conserve and enhance the variety of wildlife species and habitats in Lewisham through a Biodiversity Action Plan
  • promote awareness and encourage participation of all those who live and work in Lewisham in its development and implementation.

The Partnership intends to achieve these aims through 17 specific objectives.

Lewisham Biodiversity Partnership developed from Lewisham's Local Agenda 21. LA21 is the process which at the Rio Earth Summit, in 1992 every community around the world was invited to ask itself: 'How are we going to develop in a way that values our enterprise, our community and our living environment?'

The Partnership works, in particular, with Lewisham Council to make sure that the ecology of Lewisham is considered during the development of the borough - including built-up areas, previously developed sites and areas of green open space.

Members of the group meet as:

  • Full Partnership
  • Species and Habitats sub-group
  • Biodiversity of Open Spaces Strategy (BOSS)
  • Additional, ad hoc meetings.
