Thomas Postans

(born c. 1780 - died 1845)

Lived locally and signed the Lee Petition of 1814.

Biography

Thomas was Sir Francis Baring’s Butler and Steward. He later became a farmer at Manor Farm, by 1816 he had retired, but returned again in 1845.He was churchwarden 1835 – 1843.

He had 2 wives, Agatha (c.1781 – 1816) and Nancy (c. 1780 – 1868).

He signed the Lee Petition of 1814 against the slave trade.

Thomas was buried at St Margaret's, Lee in 10 May 1845 in a brick grave with his 2nd wife. The monumental inscription reads "sacred to the memory off Thomas Postans Esqre of this parish who departed this life the 5th of May 1845 aged 65 Also of Nancy second wife of the above who departed this life the 21st July 1868 aged 88".
