James Rice Williams

(born c. 1749 - died 1831)


Local Connection


One of the people who signed the Lee Petition of 1814, he was a resident of Lee for 21 years and a member of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Society.


Biography


James was a solicitor by profession. In 1794, we was JP (Justice of the Peace - today known as a magistrate) Chairman of the bench sitting at the Green Man Hotel, Downham.


He married Sarah Dunn on 2 Mar 1787 of St George Hanover Square, London.


James died at Lee April 1831 aged 82.
