Reading and books

Adult reading groups in Lewisham

Reading groups are an informal opportunity for over 16s to share reading experiences. We host reading groups at each of our nine branches. You can see a list of upcoming dates and times here, or drop into the library for details of when to come along – new members are always welcome.

Chatterbooks - the book club for children

All children are welcome to join our book club for games, quizzes, art, and chatter about your favourite books.

Lewisham Library
First Wednesday of every month
4pm-5pm, children's library

Also, Downham library holds a Chatterbooks reading group on the first Tuesday of the month for 5-7 year olds and on the second Tuesday for 8-11 year olds from 3.30pm-4.30pm.

Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Favourite beach read

The winner of the favourite beach read survey was Barbara Pym. Although we didn't get more than one vote for any one book - we did get numerous votes for different books by Barbara Pym, who has written novels such as A Glass Of Blessings and An Academic Question. Thanks to everyone who voted.

Previous surveys

Thank you to everyone who took part in the previous online polls. The winners were as follows:

  • The funniest book ever: Catch 22 by Joseph Heller
  • The best children's book ever: The Wind In The Willows by Kenneth Grahame.

Watch out for future online polls.
