The Manor House Library building is temporarily closed to the public to provide contractors full access to carry out an extensive range of building improvements.
This ambitious but realistic plan makes the building accessible to members of the community including parents with pushchairs and wheelchair users. The plan includes the installation of a main lift in the building making all floors accessible for the first time. Other improvements will deliver an additional IT training suite, and Audio Visual suite, meeting rooms and classes, improved toilet facilities and a crèche.
There is a replacement Library Service operating from a mobile library based in the car park of the House. Its opening hours are:
Monday 9.30am – 5pm
Tuesday 1pm – 7pm
Wednesday – closed
Thursday 9.30am – 7pm
Friday – closed
Saturday 10am – 2pm
Sunday – closed
The nearest alternative Lewisham library buildings are Lewisham's Central Library on Lewisham High Street and Blackheath Village Library on Blackheath Grove. Opening times at both of these libraries have been increased in the course of the last year.
Library card holders can borrow from all Lewisham libraries. Anyone who lives, works or studies in London may join a Lewisham library.
The House is scheduled for re-opening to the public in December 2008.
