Joining Lewisham libraries entitles you to borrow books for adults, young people and children, large print and talking books, CDs, DVDs, videos, CD-Roms and Playstation software. It also gives you access to the web based services we buy in, for you to use at home, work or place of study.
Who is eligible
Anyone who lives, works or studies in the 33 London boroughs.
How to access the service
You must complete a registration form and show two official documents that between them prove your full name and current address. We can help you to complete the form.
Application form to join all Lewisham libraries is available for download from this page.
If you are 15 or under
- we ask that a parent, legal guardian or teacher act as a guarantor
- we ask that a date of birth is provided; we have legal obligations regarding the loan of classified video and DVD materials and also use data provided to apply concessionary rates to benefit customers
- we ask for additional information (ethnic origin and phone details) to help us plan and provide a better service.
Accessibility
Lewisham Home Library Service offers a regular monthly delivery service to Lewisham residents and carers who are unable to come to a library because of age or disability.
What happens next
When you receive your library card, you are instantly entitled to borrow from all Lewisham libraries.
You are responsible for everything taken on your ticket, so do not lend it to anyone, including members of your own family. Lost tickets should be reported immediately, we can then 'block' its further use. We make a small charge to replace lost tickets, which is waived on production of a police crime number document evidencing that it has been stolen.
Most of our lending library stock is free to borrow, is easily renewed, and may be returned to any Lewisham library. The items are due back by the date stamped at the check-out desk; charges are levied for late return (concessions apply).
Re-registering
You must inform us if you move home and wish to continue to use the service. Otherwise, every two years, you will be asked to re-register and provide current proof of your name and address.
