The National Year of Reading (NYR) is a year-long celebration of reading, in all its forms. It aims to help build a greater national passion for reading in England – for children, families and adult learners alike.
Author Champions for Lewisham in National Year of Reading 2008
Reading Partners, a Reading Agency-led group of top UK publishers, have paired up published authors with every library authority in the UK. Lewisham is fortunate to have been paired with 2 outstanding South London writers whose work merits wider attention.
Claire Seeber
Lewisham Library was the venue for an event launching Claire’s debut novel Lullaby, a psychological thriller published on Avon, an imprint of HarperCollins. The opening scenes are based on a real life incident at the Tate Modern and throughout the storyline’s parallels with the abduction of Madeleine McCann, though coincidental, play on the reader’s mind.
Claire has secured a 2 book deal with Avon and Lewisham Library hope to host a further event with Claire to host Bad Friends when it is published towards the end of 2008.
Jacqueline Walker
Lewisham Library was the venue for an event in conjunction with Hodder and Stoughton Publishers launching Pilgrim State, Jackie’s moving account of her mother’s life. This extraordinary story and the way that Jackie tells it received glowing reviews and feature articles upon publication.
