In 2003, a successful bid was made for the ‘development of the moving image’ in Lewisham. The project, a three-year experiment, became known as The Lewisham Film Initiative. It has three main aims:
- to establish film screening programmes, film clubs and filmmakers’ networks in a borough with, sadly, no dedicated cinema
- to sustain and develop the Lewisham Film Initiative Production Fund
- to raise the ‘film friendly’ profile of the borough nationally and internationally by encouraging location filming in the borough.
