What younger employees say

Are you considering your next career move or just about to start one? Then, this is the right time to work for the Council. See what some of our younger employees have to say about the exciting experience of working for London Borough of Lewisham.

We provide great opportunities for all of our workforce and are particularly keen to attract younger employees. Many have progressed their careers and achieved long term goals as a result of working for the Council.

The Young Employees Panel provides our younger staff with the opportunity to express their views, share ideas and work in partnership. The Council has a culture of listening, interacting and engaging positively with younger employees and this is reinforced through this panel.

Sherelle White

Human Resources Officer

"Hard work does not go unnoticed at the Council and this, to me, is very positive. I was awarded with the Young Employee of the year in 2004. Working for the Council has continued to give me opportunities to build and develop my skills and experience and achieve my long term career goals."

Joe Gillam
National Management Trainee

"Lewisham really values its young employees. Innovative schemes such as the Young Employees Panel give us a chance to express our views, and the Young Mayor scheme is a great way of engaging young people across the Borough in local democracy."

As part of the National Graduate Development Programme, I have been given the opportunity to meet a diverse range of people and develop a variety of skills. There are plenty of support structures in place to ensure trainees get the best possible start to their careers."

Natalie White

Library Assistant

"I have been able to gain very useful experience for my future career within the Council. The Council has given me many opportunities to help me achieve my goals."

Sebastian Moh
Resettlement Officer, Youth Offending Team

"Support within my department is excellent, and I’m also part of Lewisham Young People’s Practitioners Group, made up of Council staff with a vested interest in young people. We meet once a month to discuss various issues and share best practice."

Camphung Liu
Assistant Press Officer

"Although I was studying journalism, I started working for the Council as a Housing Trainee. As part of the programme, I had regular access to a mentor. With the help of the Council I am now working in the area I have always wanted (Communications) as an Assistant Press Officer. Lewisham provides you the opportunity to achieve long term career goals."
