Lewisham's handyperson service provides small repairs and adaptations to the homes of older, disabled and vulnerable residents.
We provide this service to help people to remain in their homes, living safely and independently.
Our handypersons can do small jobs like:
- small plumbing repairs
- easing doors and windows
- fastening down carpets (and other trip hazards)
- putting up handrails/grabrails/curtains
- moving furniture
- changing light bulbs
- fitting smoke alarms.
Each job is limited to a maximum of two hours. We don’t carry out decorating, gardening, any kind of gas work, electrical wiring or general domestic tasks.
The service is free: you don't have to pay for the handyperson's labour costs, just the costs of any materials.
Who is eligible
We provide this service to Lewisham residents who are disabled or over 60 years old.
It does not matter whether you own your home or rent from a private landlord, or council. If you are a housing association tenant, some types of work may be restricted.
