We have many more people registered on our housing list than properties available.
Unfortunately this means that most people on the housing list face no prospect of being housed by this council.
If you are on the housing list you will not receive an offer quickly and those who do, will have been registered for a long time. You will probably need to request properties many times before you are successful, if at all.
| If you are homeless (or threatened with homelessness within the next 28 days), phone the Housing Options Team on 020 8314 7007. |
Applying for housing
To apply for a tenancy with the Council, a housing association or co-operative in the borough of Lewisham (or to apply for transfer if you are already a Council tenant), you need to complete a housing application form.
How to get an application form:
Once you are on the list, the way you can be considered for housing is by participating in Lewisham Homesearch.
Lewisham Homesearch maintains a register of people who want to be housed and rehoused in council-owned or housing association-owned homes in the borough.
Who can apply?
The higher the priority you have the greater your chances of being assisted with housing. Customers in band A are given preference for up to 70% of properties advertised. For customers in band B it’s 20%, in band C 9% and the other 1% is for the non-priority band.
Who has priority?
The Council prioritises how properties are allocated according to housing need. If you are not in one of the priority categories of housing need you will need to investigate other housing options, such as the private rented sector.
Other rehousing options
We run four additional schemes for rehousing:
- Lewisham house exchange
- Seaside and Country Homes Scheme, for people aged 60 and over
- Underoccupation Scheme, for underoccupying council tenants
- Fresh Start, for those who want to move out of the area.
