In order to realize the specific needs of adults with disabilities Ladywell Day Services have been successfully running a vocational training project in horticulture.
Purpose
To provide disabled people with vocational skills that have basic achievable goals leading to a recognized qualification we are currently planning to adopt ‘Skills for working life’ qualifications in a supportive and caring environment.
Every student will be encouraged to further develop their potential with higher qualifications and or employability as a goal.
Course details
Future students will study to achieve the skills for working life certificate in horticulture.
This course will cover 3 basic units:
- vegetable production
- floristry, bedding and pot plant production
- machinery and gardening care
Entry details
Open to Lewisham adult residents with physical or learning disabilities of any age. Entry is based on referral from a Social Work Team. The course is designed to last a maximum period of two years and can be joined at any time during the year.
The course consists of one day per week on horticultural skills. Additional supporting skills sessions will be added as required.
Access to the course is through Horizones though this course is based at the Ladywell Centre.
