A drug treatment plan for Lewisham is drawn up annually by the Joint Commissioner and Drug and Alcohol Action Team. The plan identifies gaps in treatment services, then details how services will be commissioned in order to meet the treatment needs of drug users in the borough.
It takes into account funding from various sources including mainstream health and social services budgets, Lewisham's pooled treatment budget, funding from the police, probation and others.
The format for the plan is supplied by the National Treatment Agency and consists of nine grids. These cover the four treatment tiers, workforce, under-served groups, systems, user/carer involvement and implementation of models of care.
Some key points from this years plan are:
- implementation of models of care
- increase capacity of treatment services
- improvement in service for dual diagnosis clients
- development of joint commissioning group for the borough
- improvement in collection of monitoring data.
The performance of the Drug and Alcohol Action Team and commissioners in implementing the Government's drug treatment priorities and meeting targets is monitored by the National Treatment Agency. To see a PDF copy of last year's Treatment Plan select the link on the right.
