Alcohol, drugs and substance use

This section includes a wealth of advice and support for anyone involved or affected by alcohol, drugs and substance misuse. It includes key contacts at local and national level as well as weblinks to relevant organisations and treatment centres.

Lewisham is committed to reducing drug misuse in the borough. In April 2004, Lewisham joined 16 other London boroughs and became a Criminal Justice Intervention Programme borough. Along with its neighbours Lambeth and Southwark it has been given additional funding to try and support drug using offenders and help them break the ties of funding their class A drug addiction via crime.

The problems of drug misuse are complex and require integrated solutions and co-ordinated delivery of services involving education, intelligence and enforcement, social and economic policy, and health. Tackling drugs requires effective joint working between government departments at national level and similar partnership working between agencies at local level.
