What will happen if you report your concern?

What you say will be taken seriously. if you do not wish to give your name or the name of the vulnerable adult, this will be respected. However, it may limit what can be done.

An independent person, such as a social worker will try and find out as much as possible about what has happened by speaking to the vulnerable adult. They may also speak to the carer of the vulnerable adult, and if necessary, the police and health professionals. They will try to find out what the vulnerable adult wants to happen too.

Sometimes the vulnerable adult may not want to help. If this happens, agencies will continue to monitor the situation, but may be restricted in what they can do.

Sometimes the abuse needs to be investigated as a professional crime. Sometimes there may be more than one vulnerable adult involved. When this happens, the partnership agencies will act to protect everybody. As much information as possible will be shared with the vulnerable person.
