Mental health is a key health concern for the people of Lewisham. 'Promoting mental well being in Lewisham' is a strategy for how the NHS, Local Authority and the community can work together to improve the mental well being of Lewisham.
The document was produced in 2002 by Healthier Lewisham to meet Standard One of the National Service Framework for Mental Health and covers both how we can work to promote positive mental health for all and also challenge the discrimination and social exclusion faced by people with mental health difficulties.
The Mental Wellbeing Impact Assessment (MWIA) toolkit was developed with NRF projects in Lewisham and Lambeth. The toolkit enables policy makers, programme managers and service providers to identify the potential impacts of their policy, programme, service or project on the mental health and wellbeing of the people it affects.
The toolkit is in two parts:
Part one is a screening tool which takes about 30 minutes and enables one or two people to self-assess the potential impacts on mental wellbeing.
Part two is much more in-depth and ideally requires stakeholders to come together for a day to undertake a process that enables them to identify and prioritise impacts and then develop specific indicators of mental wellbeing.
Please feel free to download and use the toolkit. It comes with a complete set of facilitators notes. All we ask is that you offer us some feedback. Your comments will contribute to our learning.
