FAQs

Do I have to pay for my care?

You may have to pay a charge for some services. This will depend on your income and the cost of the services you receive.

How do you work out what I have to pay?

We use government guidelines called ‘fairer charging’ to work out how much you will have to pay. We look at the money you earn and how much you need to live on. We will write to you with details of what you have to pay.

What if I don’t agree with your financial assessment?

You can appeal if you do not agree with our decision. Appeals must be made in writing and sent to:

Head of Adults’ Services
5th Floor Town Hall
Lewisham Council
Rushey Green,
London SE6 4RU.

When we have received your letter, we will arrange a meeting within 10 days. You can either come to the meeting yourself – with a friend or member of your family – or send us some information for the meeting to consider. We will let you know the result of the appeal within five days.

Can I arrange my own care?

You may be able to arrange your own care using the money the Council would give you for the care services you need. This is called Direct Payments. For more information, see the link, right.

What if I want to complain?

If you don't agree with our assessment of your needs, or you think the care we are providing does not meet your needs, you can let us know. For information on how to comment or complain about our service, contact 020 8314 8660.
