Could you do something amazing and change a child’s future? You can do this by becoming an adoptive parent with Lewisham. If you have ever thought about taking this important step read on.
Adoption is about making a real difference to a child's life. When you adopt, you can provide a secure, loving home. Like all parenting, this means sticking with your adopted child through good times and bad.
Adopting a child is one of the most challenging, but also one of the most rewarding, things you can do.
Adoption is a lifelong commitment. It's about providing a permanent family for a child or children, who cannot, for whatever reason, live with their birth family. When you adopt a child, you take on all the legal responsibilities for the child. It's the stability and security of family that gives a child the best chance in life to realise his or her full potential.
Recently we have seen the introduction of much new legislation to govern Adoption Practice. We now have National Minimum Standards for Adoption as well as the Adoption and Children Act 2002, which came into force on 31 December 2005.
This act incorporates the duty on adoption agencies to provide adoption support services for adoptive families. It has also regulated inter-country adoption.
How to access the service
Our adoption services are accessed through the adoption and adoption support teams.
