Homeshare is an adult placement service which recruits, assesses and supports carers to provide family based placements to adults with learning disabilities.
Adult placements provide the following:
- an alternative to residential care
- a family based service in the carer’s own home.
We want to work in partnership with the carer family and consider the matching process very carefully.
The following services are provided by Homeshare:
- befriending (up to six hours per week)
- respite stays (dependent on need)
- short stays (up to three months)
- longer stays (depending on individual need).
Who is eligible?
Adults with learning disabilities who are 18 years and over.
Accessibility
Homeshare is located on the 1st Floor, Capital House. There are two flights of stairs. Unfortunately the lift is not wheelchair accessible.
What might it cost?
Befriending is paid for by the hour. Payments for providing short and long term stays depend on the level of support needed. Adults with learning disabilities who live in long term placements are given help to claim housing benefit, supporting people funding, disability living allowance and any other benefits which help pay for their accommodation and support.
Who can become a adult placement carer?
Carers come from all sections of the community and reflect a variety of lifestyles and culture. Carers have varying degrees of experience and a range of qualities.
- we are looking for people over the age of 21years with warmth, sensitivity and openness
- we prefer you to live in the borough of Lewisham and you must have a spare room
- applications from all members of the community are welcome
- previous experience in a caring capacity would be helpful but is not necessary as support and training is ongoing from Homeshare’s specialist social workers
- carers go through a thorough assessment process and a report is presented to panel for approval.
