Supported tenancies

Floating support for Council tenants

Floating support enables people with support needs to live as independently as possible within the community. It is a tenancy support service that can give you help with :
  • Set up and run your home well: turning on gas, electricity and water, finding furniture sorting out rent and bills, managing money, claiming benefits, insurance, security, being a good tenant.
  • make the most of your neighbourhood: finding shops and services, looking for jobs, training, courses, and other day time activities.
  • referral for extra help: talk about problems, getting expert advice on things like debt, mental health, drugs and alcohol, contacting social services, and other organisations.

Who is eligible

Council tenants with mental health problems, learning difficulties, severe medical illness, disabilities etc.

How to access the service

Please contact your Housing Officer, and they will refer you for floating support.

Accessibility

Information can be provided in large print, Braille and audio and our service is based on home visits.

What happens next

If you are accepted for floating support, you will get a Support Worker who will talk through any problems with you. Your Support worker will agree a 'Support Plan' with you that tells you what to expect and how often you will be visited.

Our aim is to help you get on your feet and live independently, so that after a time you won’t need us any more, but your Housing Officer, can refer you if you need help again in the future.
