Residents in Catford have been chosen to test-run a new, three-quarter size domestic wheelie bin from Thursday 21 June 2007.
The 180-litre bin will replace the conventional 240-litre black wheelie bin. Residents will also receive a large 240-litre green wheelie bin for their recyclable waste if they do not already have one.
Lewisham’s weekly collections of both recyclable and non-recyclable waste will remain unchanged.
See below for a list of roads taking part in the trial.
Aims of the trial scheme
The trial aims to encourage residents to recycle more. It will involve 1,500 households, and aims to encourage residents to think about their waste before they throw it away.
We hope the difference in size between the bins will act as a constant reminder that we need to think about recycling first and throwing away second.
How we will review the scheme
Residents’ participation in the scheme will be monitored by London Remade Solutions. We will be able to identify how many people are recycling to indicate the success of the scheme.
We'll then be able to assess how successful the scheme has been and decide whether to roll it out to other households in the borough.
