Fordham Park and New Cross underpass

Construction work is now underway on major improvements to Fordham Park, including new lighting, footpaths, signage, seats and bins, a meadow and orchard area, and three play areas – for under-5s, teens and families. The work will be carried out in stages, and is currently due to take until January 2011.
Also during the summer of 2010, the underpass that connects Amersham Vale and Pagnell Street will get new CCTV and lighting which has been designed in conjunction with artist Heather Burrell. The underpass will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists throughout the duration of the work.
These works - along with new lighting, street furniture and better signage on adjoining streets - are costing in the region of £4 million, which Lewisham Council has secured from the Government.

Margaret McMillan Park

The makeover of Margaret McMillan Park is now complete. A number of large shrubs have been removed and the main footpath has been straightened, meaning that users can easily see from one end of the park to the other. This, and the addition of new lighting, makes it feel much safer.
There are new pathways, the children’s play area has been given an upgrade, while various wooden sculptures and posts add interest. The new seating is already showing signs of tempting more people to stop and enjoy the park.
