Work on the new school building for Tidemill, located in the heart of Deptford, started in October 2009. Adjoining the school will be the Deptford Lounge, a state of the art public library and community use building.
Deptford Lounge
The Deptford Lounge facility at the heart of Deptford will function as ‘a living room in city’.
Serving the community, the Lounge will hold something for every one, regardless of age, income, cultural and ethnic background:
- state of the art library including children’s and youth library
- AccessPoint – one stop shop giving access to Council services
- flexible spaces to hire out for events such as weddings, conferences and celebrations
- flexible working spaces to hire out to the community voluntary sector and small starter businesses
- café
- public toilets.
Tidemill School
The Tidemill school will provide:
- an outstanding place for learning and teaching from early years to age 11
- facilities designed to meet and exceed the latest standards and guidelines for schools
- integration with the Deptford Lounge
- a community school: shared facilities and an extensive programme of evening, weekend and holiday events
- a prominent main entrance on Giffin Square.
- a landscaped play garden directly accessible from all classrooms
- a ball court and sports hall with a design compliant with Sport England requirements.
The new Tidemill School will share facilities with the community, enabling many of these to be used outside of school hours.
These spaces will include:
- dining hall and kitchen, leading out onto roof terrace
- main hall
- studio hall
- jamming suite
- food technology suite.
This development is to be built on the site of the old AccessPoint and Wavelengths car park.
Resolution Studios
The facility will provide high quality work studios for small businesses, and an art gallery for Deptford’s artistic community from the Resolution Way frontage of the school site.
Above the studios there will be 38 flats for key workers and private sale, to be developed by London and Quadrant Housing Association.
The flats will have south facing living rooms with balcony access to the north, completely separate from the school and studios.
If you are interested in renting one of the studios or the art gallery, please contact the project team on the numbers below.
