The borough of Lewisham is starting to undergo its biggest transformation since Victorian times, with unparalleled levels of investment - from both the public and private sectors - meaning significant regeneration and renewal for many of our communities. For instance:
- Catford, Lewisham and the North Lewisham corridor will benefit due to the important roles play within the Thames Gateway scheme. This is largely due to their good levels of public transport accessibility.
- The New Cross Gate New Deal for Communities is delivering significant regeneration of the New Cross Gate area in partnership with the local community.
- Deptford Creek is identified as an Opportunity Area in Central Government's London Plan, capable of accommodating substantial new jobs and homes
- Surrey Canal and Bromley Road have been designated Strategic Employment Locations by the Mayor Of London.
Other developments are underway across the whole of the borough. Together they mean that Lewisham has the potential to become one of the most exciting, dynamic and prosperous places to live, work or learn in London. The Council's Regeneration strategy covers the period 2008-2020, setting out our vision for the future of the borough, and includes three-year implementation plans so you can monitor our progress.
