Councils in England have a duty to publish a strategy laying out how they will inspect and deal with contaminated land in their area.
The Government legislation that deals with identifying and dealing with contaminated land is contained in Part 2A of the the Environmental Protection Act (1990). Visit the DEFRA website (follow the link on the right) for further information on this legislation.
