The role of planning enforcement is to respond when planning controls have been broken.
Planning controls have been developed to protect the environment and to ensure the use of land and buildings are in the public interest. In most cases planning permission is required before activities are carried out, although some minor works or changes of use do not need permission.
We have a full range of enforcement powers available to establish whether a breach of planning control has taken place, what harm is caused as a result of the breach and how to remedy the situation.
