Forest Hill conservation area

Forest Hill conservation area was designated in 1976 and comprises a small but varied town centre surrounded by residential streets. Buildings include fine Victorian commercial terraces along Dartmouth Road, the former 1930s cinema and Horniman Museum along London Road and Gothic style houses on Manor Mount.

The Council has asked consultants, The Conservation Studio to review the conservation area and write a character appraisal which will set out the special architectural or historic appearance that the Council has a duty to preserve or enhance.

The review will include:
  • a summary of the history of the area
  • an analysis of the spatial characteristics of the conservation area
  • an assessment of the buildings making a positive contribution to the conservation area
  • a summary of the current condition of the conservation area
  • a review of the boundaries of the conservation area

Following the review, the Council will consider making further management proposals to preserve or enhance the character of the conservation area.

A draft will be made available on these web pages in the autumn and is timetabled to be adopted by the Council by March 2009. Watch this space for further details.
