Brookmill Road Conservation Area was designated by Lewisham Council in 1972. The area was developed as a later part of Deptford New Town and the terraces of houses were built on land owned and controlled by Jonathan Lucas between the 1850s and 1870s.
The small tree lined streets and modest stock brick houses still appear much as they did when they were built.
