The Streetleader scheme gives residents an opportunity to be actively involved in making Lewisham a better place to live, work and learn.
The aims of the scheme are:
- to facilitate the Streetleaders as being the eyes and ears of Lewisham
- to inform and educate people about the importance of their environment
- to advise and support residents in actively getting involved in their environment
- to work with other partners to promote and assist with community development
- to reflect environmental concerns across all communities in Lewisham borough.
As a Streetleader you can:
- report environmental problems
- attend and take part in your local Neighbourhood Environmental Action Team
- join initiatives to tackle specific subject related problems such as Graffiti, river clean ups, wildspace activities, and other problem areas as appropriate
- propose environmental improvement projects in your local area
- have your say concerning written requests to participate in service reviews, service strategies, focus groups and other consultation opportunities
- attend briefings and provide us with ideas for briefing topics.
Accessibility
Information can be provided in braille, audio, large print and other languages on request. Other special requirements will be considered on a need by need basis depending on the project.
What happens next
Application forms will be dispatched within five working days of receipt by the environment and community development team. Application forms will then be processed within 10 working days of receipt.
Once the form is processed you will receive a Streetleader pack and a phone card so that you may contact the Council. Contained within the pack is an agreement that outlines the role and responsibilities of the Streetleader and the Council in relation to the scheme. All Streetleaders are expected to sign and return the agreement.
Other environmental activities such as NEATS, and Graffitti busters will be arranged directly with groups or individuals to suit the project requirements.
