Clean and Green Schools

This is a programme to deliver information and education on environmental issues such as litter and graffiti, waste education, energy, biodiversity and transport to primary and secondary schools within the borough.

This year the programme will run between September 2006 and July 2007.

You can find further details of this year's programme here.

There are seven themes in this year's Clean and Green programme that schools can address. These are:

  • waste and recycling
  • local environmental quality
  • energy and climate change
  • transport
  • biodiversity
  • fairtrade
  • water

Your school can address any of the above themes, but is not restricted to these and you can address other themes as well.

Who is eligible?

Primary and secondary schools in the London Borough of Lewisham

Accessibility

Information can be provided in braille, audio, large print and other languages on request. Other special requirements will be considered on a need by need basis depending on the project.

What happens next?

Register your interest with us and we will send you a registration form for you to fill in and return. The registration form will give you the opportunity to choose which of the compulsory themes (local environmental quality or waste) that your school would like to focus on. Once you have registered you will be sent a pack that will detail the process of the programme and outline the time table.

FAQ

What is Clean and Green about?

The Clean and Green Schools programme has been running in Lewisham since the 2000-01 academic year. The programme has grown year on year and not only covers environmental issues such as litter and graffiti, but now looks at waste education, energy, biodiversity and transport, having adapted last year's programme to incorporate the London Schools Environment Award (LSEA).

What do I have to do to participate?

Contact the environment and community development team for a registration form.

How long is the programme?

The programme runs over an academic year from September to July.

Is there a limit to the number of schools that can participate?

Currently, the environment and community development team can deliver some activities to 21 schools. However, if this limit is reached and your school still wishes to participate the lesson plans are available for each of the main themes for teachers to deliver in the classroom.
