Pet neutering scheme

Neutering your pet can have positive health benefits for your animal, and for your local environment.

Our pet neutering service

The Council recognises that neutering your pet can be expensive and we therefore offer a discounted neutering scheme.

To use this service, contact the Animal Welfare Service using the details below.

Other neutering services

If you are currently receiving benefits, job seekers allowance or a pension, you could contact The Celia Hammond Trust or the PDSA to see if you qualify for one of their discounted or free neutering and vaccination schemes.

Follow the links in useful websites on the right of this page for further information about these schemes.

Benefits of having your pet neutered

  • It can reduce the chance of developing breast cancer and eliminates the threat of ovarian cancer and internal infections, which are common problems in un-neutered females.
  • Neutering your male dog or cat prevents testicular tumours and may help prevent prostate problems.
  • Neutered male cats are less likely to mark their territory and are less tempted to leave your property in search of a female, or fight over territory with other males.
  • Getting your pet neutered reduces the amount of unwanted and stray animals collected by the animal welfare service and other animal welfare organisations.
