Dog wardens (Animal Welfare Service)

The Animal Welfare Officer will help you if you lose your dog and aims to help prevent stray dogs from being a danger in traffic or a nuisance to people.

The Animal Welfare Service:

  • responds to all complaints as soon as possible but always within two working days
  • responds urgently to sightings of stray dogs anywhere in the Borough
  • collects all strays and keeps them safely for a maximum of two working days for collection by the owner (subject to the payment of a fee). If the dog is not collected within two working days it will be taken to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
  • promotes responsible dog ownership through talks to primary schools and other groups
  • assists in the enforcement of dog-related by-laws and the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996.
