London's schools celebrating achievement
The ‘London’s Schools Celebrating Achievement’ campaign aims to communicate to parents the good news that GCSE results are improving year-on-year, and thousands more teachers are seeking employment in the capital.
A number of opportunities are coming up over the next few months that are available to students and teachers in state schools across the capital. These include free media training for teachers, and an awards scheme for exceptional students.

A sporting success
Lewisham schools are benefiting from a National School Sports Co-ordinator scheme to improve sports during and out of school hours. Their role is to improve sport quality and to foster activity within and between schools. The scheme also gives opportunities to sixth form students interested in pursuing sports related careers.

Your choice
As part of the Council's priority to improve educational options for 14-19 year olds in Lewisham, two booklets have been produced to help steer pupils towards their most suitable career path. One booklet is for 14-16 year olds and the other is aimed at 16 year olds and above.
Students in Year 9 and Year 11 will automatically receive a copy through their school. Copies are also available from all Lewisham libraries or can be downloaded from this site.
Catford to go co-ed
From September 2006, Catford Business and Enterprise College began accepting boys. The decision was taken by Lewisham School Organisation Committee, following public consultation.
Catford's new mixed status will be introduced gradually over five years, taking boys into Year 7 in 2006.
The decision builds on the success of its specialist-school status and thriving link with Crossways Academy. It will also enable more families to send siblings to the same school.
