Continuing professional development

Welcome to our Continual Professional Development Programme for 2008-2009. This year our offer comes through the Lewisham Leadership and Development College (LLDC). This is Lewisham’s college of learning designed to bring together a wide range of leaders from our schools and settings for the purpose of identifying, nurturing and promoting talent and encouraging reflective, professional dialogue. This is a college that will offer advice on career pathways and will personalise your continuing professional development opportunities, in both virtual and real environments.

Professional development is central to raising attainment within our schools and in-service training together with staff development are vital strands of school improvement.

Whilst professional development for teachers and other staff who work with them in schools has been changing dramatically over recent years, courses still play a fundamental part in the provision of a comprehensive programme of professional development. In recognition of this we at the Professional Development Centre endeavour to provide a comprehensive programme of courses for teachers and education staff working within the Borough of Lewisham. Within this booklet we outline many of the courses we intend to run throughout the year 2008/2009. However, additional courses will be organised during the year as we respond to issues of current importance and to needs expressed. All of the courses outlined have been organised to take into account the priorities of Lewisham’s Children and Young Peoples Plan and current government initiatives.
