The Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Outreach service work with children and young people in schools who have a diagnosis of ASD.
About ASD
ASD is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them.
People with this disorder can often have accompanying learning disabilities but everyone with the condition shares a difficulty in making sense of the world. There is also a condition called Asperger syndrome which is a form of autism used to describe people usually on the higher functioning end of the spectrum.
Our ASD policy
Due to the increasing numbers of children that have been diagnosed in Lewisham over recent years, reflecting national trends, Lewisham has developed a cohesive approach to meet the needs of these children and young people, and a policy document has been produced which can be downloaded from this page.
The ASD policy was written by the ASD Outreach Service in consultation with parents, children and agencies. The action plan in section seven of the policy will be updated on an annual basis.
