Haberdasher's Aske's Hatcham College admissions criteria

The College offers the National Curriculum to all pupils. There are places for specialism in Music and provision for children with statements of special educational needs (Autistic Spectrum Disorder).

When the College is oversubscribed, after the admission of pupils with Statements of Special Educational Needs where the College has consented to be named in the Statement. Priority for admissions will be given to those children who meet the criteria set out below, in priority order:

  1. Children who are looked after by a local authority in accordance with Section 22 of the Children Act 1989 at the date of the relevant application for admission is made and who the local authority has confirmed will continue to be looked after by it in accordance with the said section at the time they are admitted to the College.
  2. 10% of the agreed admission number of pupils will be admitted on the basis of aptitude in Music, using a specified assessment process which will be published in the College prospectus (Year 7 Secondary Transfer only).
  3. Pupils for whom it is essential to be admitted to the College because of special circumstances to do with significant medical or social needs. The Application will need to be supported by a letter from a hospital consultant, social worker or similar professional. “ The information should demonstrate why the College is the only school to meet the child’s specific needs”.
  4. Pupils who, on the date of admission, will have an older sibling (i.e. a natural brother or sister, or a half brother or sister, or a legally adopted brother or sister or half-brother or sister, or step brother or sister, who will be living with them at the same address at the date of their entry to the secondary school) on the roll of Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College. (Proof of the sibling relationship will be required if a place is offered.)
  5. The remaining places will be offered to pupils living nearest to the College on the basis of proximity; i.e. pupils who live the nearest radial distance to the College on the close of the Lewisham LA admission late application date. Home to College distance will be measured as the direct line distance between the pupil’s home to the College’s main building entrance on Pepys Road. Where a pupil lives for a part of each week at different addresses, the “home” address will be the one taken from the Common Application Form (proof of residency will be required if a place is offered).

If for any reason the funding agreement to create an all age academy at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College is not signed, the previous admission policy for Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College will apply. In summary after the admission of:

  1. Looked after children.
  2. 10% of places under music specialism.
  3. Children demonstrating an exceptional medical or social need for the school.
  4. Siblings.

50 % of the remaining places will be offered by band to those living within three miles (4.8km) and south of the Thames to children living the closest to the school and 50% of the remaining places will be made by random allocation.
