On this page you can find out how we deal with late applications for admission to Lewisham primary schools.
Applicants who intend to move into Lewisham but have not confirmed their move must apply from their existing address.
Applying for a reception place after the cut off date
Families who move into the borough after the cut off date and were not able to apply on time can make a 'late for good reason application'.
In 2010 the deadline for this is 22 February, and 'late for good reason' applications received before this date will be considered to be on time. Applications received after 22 February will not be considered until after the on time applicants have been dealt with.
Late applicants will be added to the waiting list of any oversubscribed school they apply for and will have the right of appeal.
If you are making a late application you should contact the Admissions Team to find out which schools have vacancies.
Change of address between February and April
As you are required to prove your permanent home address when the provisional offer of a place is made, you should advise the Admissions Team in writing of your new address immediately.
The new home to school distance is likely to affect your application and the consideration given by Lewisham and by any Voluntary Aided school that you may have applied to. Changes of address after the end of February cannot be taken into consideration.
Change of address between May and your child’s start at school
If you move home after you have had your offer of a place confirmed, the offer of a place will still be honoured but you must ensure that the journey is reasonable and your child always arrives and is picked up on time.
If you no longer require a place in Lewisham, please advise the Admissions Team in writing so that the place can be offered to another child.
If you require a reception place in another part of the borough, then a list of schools with vacancies will be available on request.
Deferral of a place
If your child is offered a place but you wish to defer taking the place, you may do so and the place offered will be held for your child.
You cannot, however, defer entry beyond the beginning of the term after your child’s fifth birthday, nor beyond the academic year that you have applied for.
If you want to defer your child’s admission to a later academic year (for instance, Year 1), you will need to re-apply for that year.
