Every school has a governing body to represent the public in the running of schools. School governors bring perspectives from ordinary life and work with the staff and Council to help secure the best possible education for the children in the school.
Who is eligible?
You do not need specialist knowledge or qualifications to become a school governor. Caring about improving education, enthusiasm and an ability to work as a member of a team are some of the more important qualities in prospective governors.
Support for governors from the council
The Governors’ Services Team comprises five full time office based staff and a team of 17 part-time clerks. This experienced team provides high quality advice and support to the governing bodies of Lewisham’s schools, together with a comprehensive training programme.
