The performance of schools is now monitored by the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted).
How school performance is measured
Schools complete an annual self-evaluation using a range of information as evidence for their evaluation.
This includes the school's own analysis of pupil progress, 'benchmarking' information from similar schools and Ofsted's analysis of pupil attainment.
Schools now use a web-based system called RAISEonline to record and share school performance data with Ofsted. RAISEonline helps us to identify areas of good performance and groups which may be underachieving.
How school performance information is used
Performance information helps schools to look at their strengths and weaknesses, and is designed to help them develop plans to raise standards.
The information is also used for the same purposes at a local education authority level (by Lewisham Council), and at a national level (by Ofsted).
