Work-related learning

The Council supports the development of work-related learning and enterprise skills in schools.

We deliver activities, in close partnership with the business community, which develop young people’s understanding of the world of work and enhance their employability skills.

The Lewisham Education Business Partnership (EBP) helps to develop the partnership between our schools and businesses in our borough.

Our links with local businesses enable us to recruit employers and to share their experience and expertise with young people in our schools.

What is work-related learning?

Work related learning is an umbrella term for planned programmes of activities and qualifications that help young people make an effective transition from school to work.

This includes:

  • employers working in schools
  • pupils learning in the workplace
  • work-related qualifications and key skills for pupils
  • career planning for pupils
  • enterprise education (see below).

Work related learning is now a statutory requirement for all students at key stage 4.

Enterprise Education

Enterprise education is an element of work related learning. The Government has defined three learning outcomes of enterprise education:

  • enterprise capability
  • financial literacy
  • business and economic understanding.

All key stage 4 students must complete five days of enterprise education activity per year.
