The Council, in partnership with our caterer Scolarest, provides a nutritious lunchtime meal for pupils attending our schools.
We work to continuously improve the level of cuisine offered and to ensure that a healthy diet is available to all young people.
Cost of school meals
The fee pays for a two course meal.
- Primary and special school meals: £1.40
- Secondary school meals: £1.85
How to pay
Primary school pupils are asked to pay the school administrator on a weekly basis. Secondary school pupils pay at a cash till.
See our free school meals page for information about financial support for your child's school meals.
Nutrition
School meals comply with the nutritional requirements of the Department for Children, School and Families and the Caroline Walker Trust. (Find out more about the requirements by following the links on the right of this page).
The menus are designed with the assistance of qualified nutritionists. We aim to provide all of the basic food requirements that a young person needs at the mid-day period. This enables them to derive maximum benefit from the afternoon session of lessons.
All of the services provided by our caterer are subject to stringent independent monitoring thus ensuring an efficient, healthy and nutritious standard is maintained.
Making a complaint about school meals
Complaints should be delivered in the first instance to the school meals supervisor at the school. Your child’s school will then contact the caterer direct.
Should the nature of the complaint recur or you or the school receive no satisfaction then the school will then report the complaint to the council.
Catering forums
A Catering forum is held once a term which parents are welcome to attend. Please contact your child’s school for details.
