Work-based training for 16 to 19 year olds

Work-based training is part of a national programme of government-funded education to increase young people’s skills.

It is an opportunity for young people to continue their learning outside full-time education, and allows them to work towards achieving National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) at various levels.

NVQs are designed around the skills people use at work and cover all types and levels of work. Many employers are now taking the opportunity to develop their employees in this way.

There are lots of different opportunities, including apprenticeships, Entry to Employment programmes, Young Enterprise schemes and the Learning Gateway.  You can find out more about all of these schemes in the "16+ - your choice in Lewisham" booklet, in the documents section on the right of this page.

Below, we have provided details of a selection of training providers in Lewisham, and some of the national training providers that work in this area.

You can get a list of all the providers from the London East Learning and Skills Council, and your Connexions adviser will also provide help in this area.
